A tribute from an old adversary

Created by Nicholas 5 years ago

It will always be my profound regret that I never made the effort to contact and meet with Pete.

Pete first came to my attention on an old website hosted by Mr Jarman, a former Music teacher at Fyfield Boarding School . Many years later I finally saw a photo of Pete taken at one of the School Reunions and was finally able to put a face to my sporting Nemisis.

On Jarmans website, in amongst the photos of staff and former pupils, were a set of school records for athletics and swimming dating back to the time that Pete spent at Fyfield in the early 70s .

It was hard to miss the frequent references to Petes exceptional Athletic and Swimming achievements in his time at the school . Between us we held many of the sprint swimming and field athletic records.

To put these achievements into perspective, many of these sporting records stood unbeaten for decades. Like me, Petes competitive spirit would have driven him throughout his time at Fyfield to equal and surpass former records striving to be the best at whatever he undertook.

My last year at Fyfield was 1967 so I probably wouldn’t even have noticed a fresh faced young Pete in his first year at the school but I sure noted his exceptional sporting achievements many years later. I’d like to think that had we met, Pete and I would have got along well as we reminisced over old times at Fyfield.

Rest in peace Pete, lifes race is won.....
